Woody's task was an unenviable one...

First to collect the scrapped amphibian army Lark from a field in south eastern Queensland then to convert it into an award winning tourist industry adventure water ride now used on the Gold Coast.

The scrapped army Lark

lies unwanted in a field

The project involved taking the army Lark back to Woody's Tingalpa workshop where the structure was stripped down then cut and reshaped to allow unrestricted road use. To achieve this 0.5 metre of the width had to be removed and the engine repositioned alongside a new top structure constructed to carry 35 passengers.

The amphibious vehicle under reconstruction

The vessel is now central to the award winning application - taking tourists along the coastline off the Gold Coast.

The vessel is a purpose built hydrographic survey for an American company who are involved in underwater mapping and locating oil reserves. Due to their work taking them to anywhere in the world, the boat had to be able to be dismantled and made to fit into two 40ft shipping containers, the hull and pontoons in one container and the deck equipment and fittings in another. We have made the containerisation process as simple and as practical as possible by minimising the number of detachable units.
